1 in 4 Viewers Made Sick by 3D TV?
According to this article, optometrists say 1 in 4 viewers are made “uncomfortable or sick” by viewing 3D entertainment. Apparently the viewing angle can impact how viewers feel while watching 3D TV, and optometrists are recommending that people view 3D movies from the back of the theater to minimize this effect. Somehow I doubt this figure…if truly 1 in 4 people felt uncomfortable or sick while viewing Avatar in 3D, it wouldn’t have been the global blockbuster that it was.
Jeff Katzenberg, CEO of Dreamworks Animation SKG Inc., calls 3D media “the greatest innovation that’s happened for the movie theaters and for moviegoers since color.” I tend to agree. While there may be some people that feel disoriented while watching 3D entertainment, I have to believe that over time as technology improves this sub-group will get smaller and smaller.
