LG 72″ 3D TV Set – World’s Biggest 3D Screen?
Great video provided by Tweak Town at BlizzCon 2011 of the LG booth where they are showing off a 72″ 3D television that they claim is the biggest in the world. Here’s the video and commentary.
PC World Favorite 3D TV for 2011 – LG Infinia 47LW6500
PC World recently reviewed the 3D HDTVs on the market and picked out their five favorites. Their favorite 3D HDTV for 2011 is the 47″ LG Infinia 47LW6500, which uses passive 3D glasses and provides “very good depth [which] doesn’t appear to sacrifice detail” according to PC World. They went on to say that “LG’s 47LW6500 impressed our testers with excellent 3D depth and crisp image quality.”
We were also recently looking at this LG model here at our blog when we were talking about the best-selling 3D TVs on Amazon and the LG Infinia 47LW6500 model clocked in as the second best seller for August.

PC World Picks Best 3D Plasma TV of 2011 – LG Infinia 50PZ950
When PC World reviewed the 3D TV models on the market in 2011, it singled out the LG Infinia 50PZ950 as the best 3D Plasma TV set of the year. PC World cites the “excellent image quality” of this beautiful 50″ plasma screen calling it “an attractive 50-inch plasma set with good picture quality, plenty of Internet options, and excellent 3D graphics.” The reviewer says the LG Infinia 50PZ950 “makes a very compelling case for going for a big, pretty plasma set.”
PC World also says that the LG Infinia 50PZ950 is an excellent example of recent strides made by active shutter 3D glasses technology with “extreme foreground effects [that] popped.”

3D Olympics – 2012 London Olympics in 3D?
In a recent British survey conducted by LG TV it was discovered that viewers would love to see the Olympics in 3D – so much that they’d consider buying a new television in 2012. The survey showed that 37% of those asked were seriously tempted by the idea, and others also might find the 2012 London Olympics in 3D a true sales motivator to purchase a 3D TV. The key here will be handling the technology effectively to bring the viewer into the Olympic experience. Stay tuned!
Samsung, LG, Vizio 3D TVs Dominating Best-Sellers
Samsung, LG and Vizio are absolutely dominating the top ten list on Amazon for best-selling 3D TVs as of the end of August. Each manufacturer claimed 3 models in the top ten.
3 of the top 10 best-selling 3D TVs on Amazon were Samsung models, including the top-selling product overall.
#1 – Samsung UN55D8000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D LED HDTV)
#7 – Samsung UN60D8000 60-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D LED HDTV
#8 – Samsung UN55D8000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D LED HDTV
Overall of the 50 best-selling TVs on Amazon at the end of August, 12 of those models with 3D televisions. We will be keeping a close eye on this figure to monitor the growth of 3D TV against non-3D TV models over time.
LG models represented 3 of the top 5 best-selling models at the end of August, which probably makes them the winner in the overall field, although just a hair ahead of Samsung and a length ahead of Vizio.

3D TV Wars Heating Up
According to Businessweek, the 3D market is rapidly heating up. That means that manufacturers like Samsung and LG Electronics are pressing harder to get ahead of the other names in the 3D game like SONY. There’s no question consumers find the price tags on 3D television sets daunting, and the race to set the technology standard and achieve a mass market price range is at full bore among the major 3D TV manufacturers.

LG Electronics Working on Cinema 3D
On the heels of James Cameron’s support of polarized glasses for home viewing, LG announced an upcoming release of a Cinema 3D TV series – all manner of televisions equipped with LG’s new technology. LG feels that the fight between display technology and types of 3D glasses is getting hot. They hope to offer consumers a comfortable interactive experience by applying a film to the screen rather than having buyers use glasses. The film polarizes the image for 3D viewing. People in the UAE may see these sets by Mid May of 2011.
